The book whisperer awakening the inner reader in every child by Donalyn Miller
Author:Â (Donalyn Miller)
Donalyn Miller says she has yet to meet a child she couldn’t turn into a reader. No matter how far behind Miller’s students might be when they reach her 6th grade classroom, they end up reading an average of 40 to 50 books a year. Miller’s unconventional approach dispenses with drills and worksheets that make reading a chore. Instead, she helps students navigate the world of literature and gives them time to read books they pick out themselves. Her love of books and teaching is both infectious and inspiring. The book includes a dynamite list of recommended “kid lit” that helps parents and teachers find the books that students really like to read.
OK, I only added this one to my list, so all of my GoodReads friends could see it!I could not believe that the book was already added to the GoodReads site… The book will be published in March of 2009. I am currently doing the copy edits and the final tweaks on the production design. Still surreal to think that I wrote an entire book. I think it is pretty good, but I am a bit biased. My husband teased me saying that it only deserved four stars out of five because he prefers books with action in them! I told him that if he had ever been in my Language Arts classroom, he would see plenty of action and adventure. Donalyn                                                 rated it: 5.0 from 5.0

Wow! What an inspiration. I plan on utilizing a ton of these strategies in my classroom. Here’s to always growing and helping kids unlock their love for reading. Hope Martin                                               rated it: 5.0 from 5.0
